Unjustified Escalation of Rent Lead to Discomfort & Poverty

Dated: November 15, 2011

We have studied very carefully the rent laws of Pakistan regarding commercial and domestic including AJK. Therefore, it is necessary to re-visit the rent laws of Pakistan in the context of economic scenario: monetary, industrial, trade and fiscal policy including inflation, exports, increasing cost, unemployment and increasing burden upon courts and jails.

In some cases countries have frozen the tendency of increasing the rent in the larger interest of the economy. It is estimated that more than seven crore / 70 million tenants are in Pakistan in various forms and they continue to suffer endlessly because of the rent laws that mostly favor the landlords.

Therefore, Think Tank Pakistan has worked out a solution which is being highlighted at national level.
