A huge case of wheat theft has been discovered in Sindh, where around 47,000 bags of wheat, worth a massive Rs. 800 million, have vanished from different warehouses supervised by the Sindh Food Department in Khairpur district.

After an initial investigation, authorities have suspended three government officials, including the district food controller and supervisors. The missing wheat was noticed during a physical check by Food Department officers. They found that a significant amount of wheat, stored in bags, was missing from various warehouses in Khairpur district.

Officials from the District Food Department have confirmed the theft, saying the wheat bags were stolen from warehouses in Khairpur, Sitharja, Gumbat, Thari Mir Wah, Choundko, Sikandarabad, and other areas in the district. The total value of the stolen wheat bags is estimated to be around Rs. 800 million.

This theft has serious consequences, not just financially but also for food security and public trust in government institutions. It shows weaknesses in the food supply chain and highlights the urgent need for reforms to improve storage facilities, increase oversight, and ensure accountability.

As authorities continue to investigate, it’s crucial to take corrective actions and implement reforms to strengthen the food supply chain and rebuild public trust in government institutions.
